he kept on cree ping forward while the other traffic had the green light. I thought he was going to run the red.

Maybe he just has really bad brakes?

I think it’s a mental thing. I’ve seen many many people never stay still and keep creeping up as though they’re ready to jump at the moment it turns green, only to give several seconds pause before starting off slowly once it does turn green.

Ah, but that makes the light change faster when you do that!!

tricks on him. af ter the light turned red for the other direction there was a crosswalk signal.

Ugh! Can’t the crosswalk signal see that he’s important?
Hope he didn’t run over a pack of pedestrians when that happened.

yea, this guy floored it, turned left, and cut off the two people coming at him

LOL I’ve seen that as well. Floor it on yield on green before the opposite side traffic starts moving. This must be a Northeast/ city driving thing because the only times I’ve seen it was out of state either a MA or PA plate

I ’ve heard this refereed to as the Bos ton Left. I was listening to a Bill Burr (comedian) pod cast. He grew up around Boston but moved out to LA. He was telling a story that a friend from Boston had gone out to visit him in LA and that friend was driving. He did jumped the left and Bill started freaking out cuz its not something that people do out there and it almost got them killed.

It only takes one fast vehicle accelerating from the other side to ruin your day and theirs, but these assholes know they they’d brake anyway, and most people are advised to take a sec to watch for crossing traffic before going into the intersection on green . It just takes advantage of that.

I’m usually pretty heavy on the gas out of lights, so I can easily imagine this being me hitting the “Boston Left” guy. I do at least try to watch. In Houston I frequently had problems with left turners trying to sneak through after their turn light went red and then ending up in my way.

Yep, this is supposed to be a Boston thing. I don’t see it much here, but at the same time, I probably see it more than anyplace I’ve been except Beijing, where you had whole lines of cars do it.

New brake rotors maybe? ;) I know I creep when I have fresh brakes installed so as not to burn in the pad to the rotor after a hard stop... and around here they’re all pretty much hard stops. I figure at least that way I use up my rear brakes along with the fronts. I’m an equal opportunity brake abuser.

I lived in close proximity to Boston and I can confirm this is a Boston Left and I’ve rarely seen it outside of MA.

Whenever somebody in front of me does this, I leave their spot open for them like that guy did. Not because it’s “nice”, but because I’m secretly hoping that their pulling away from t he sensor will cause the light to stay red longer.

I confess that I do jump the right at one particular light quite frequently, but that’s only after I’ve checked that the front line is either Semi(s) or Kei cars (non-turbo) as neither of those can accelerate fast enough to be cut off with the size of the intersection.
It’s a long light, and the traffic ( usually) never ends until the red, and there’s usally a car or two who run the light from the opposite direction so it ends up leaving a very small window to turn without cutting off the cross traffic.
